FeetCare Visits Footwear Factory in Johor

Today we paid a visit to some shoe manufacturing factories in Skudai, Johor. Just checking out the footwear scene here in this area.

They are the remaining few left in this region, as most of you might be aware that almost all shoes are made in China or Vietnam now. Singapore and Malaysia used to have quite an established footwear manufacturing industry in the 70s and 80s. This is what is left, mostly low-volume productions and minimally automated. They are located near Taman Universiti. They handle footwear that are sold locally in Singapore or Malaysia. The factory like this probably makes about 100 - 200 pairs of shoes a day, far lower than the average of 6000 pairs in a China factory.
